Before we turn our attention to our gymnasts, we'll introduce you to some girls from Elin Pelin. Although the town is small, the club attracts dozens of children from the area and is even preparing Olympic hopefuls. Paulina Naydenova and camera operator Lyubomir Stanoev met them.

They dream of winning medals like the Golden Girls and hearing the Bulgarian anthem from the podium. They watch every rhythmic gymnastics competition and train every day to get into the national team. And one of them is already an Olympic reserve.

Dara Krasteva: I'm Dara Krasteva and I'm 12 years old. This year I joined the national reserve squad, and we go to camps from time to time. There they watch us, test us, we do new elements, they teach us things. We do harder elements and everything is at a higher level. I compete with rope, hoop, ball and ribbon, and that's it.
BNT: How many cups and certificates do you have?
– I haven't counted them. I started competing when I was 6 and I haven't counted them. At first I counted them, and the medals and everything. But after a while it didn't matter to me any more.
BNT: So what does matter?
– Doing well, being more successful at every competition and getting my routines right. I want to get into the national team and keep going.

Valentina Georgieva will be fighting for a place in the national team as early as next year. There are no athletes in her family, but her parents decided to sign her up for rhythmic gymnastics training.

Valentina Georgieva: At home Mum could do a bridge, and Grandma could do the splits. Mum taught me against the wall, but I always fell and couldn't do it – then they taught me how to do it here, and I was so happy.
BNT: What's your strongest apparatus?
– My strongest apparatus is the hoop, because it feels like a part of me.

Valentina Georgieva – 13: I prepare for every competition with a lot of hard work, and I always want each competition to be better than the last. I want to do well at school too, because that's very important to me. I want to become an IT specialist. I really love computers.

Teodora Gramatikova – coach and owner of the club in Elin Pelin: I've coached these two girls since they were 4–5 years old, when they first stepped into the hall. My career as a coach has run parallel to their sporting careers. An enormous amount of effort – even staying up at night gluing stones onto one of their leotards so it looks right on the carpet. It took us quite a while to explain what we're building in the town. In fact, I've done it myself – I trained at the Iliana Sports Club. I'm an Iliana gymnast. And at some point, after I ended my sporting career, I decided it would be a good initiative to do something in the town itself, because there were so many children who had nothing to do apart from cultural activities – there was no professional sport.

Elin Pelin Municipality lets the club use the town's sports hall, and for costumes the team relies on sponsors. Through hard work, Teodora Gramatikova and her team of young coaches are achieving success, and the young gymnasts keep winning medals at national and international competitions. And in the town, people increasingly call them "the pride of Elin Pelin".

Teodora Gramatikova – coach and owner of the club in Elin Pelin: Lots of little children, even three-year-olds, come to the hall wanting to become like the Golden Girls – to meet Ms Raeva one day, or some of the national team coaches. But the conditions here, in terms of training hours, still aren't enough for us to be well enough prepared.
BNT: And what do they demand of you?
– That's a good question. Strong nerves. It's normal. You know, there are a lot of children, a lot of gymnasts. We have high expectations of them. There are times when they refuse to carry on training, or train quite badly on a given day. It's normal – they're human, they have good days and bad days.
BNT: There are many comments that coaches are quite strict, and need to be strict for children to develop well. Is that necessary, and is it true?
– This is sport, anything can happen. There has to be a certain safety in the way of training, and of course we sometimes raise our voices and demand discipline from them. After all, we want to bring them up well – not only as athletes, but as people.

["post-9634","td_news","type-td_news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news_source-teadance-eu
["GET
